The Mississippi Maritime and Warship Museum mission is to preserve and promote naval and maritime history for the benefit of business, community and government by providing a museum and attraction that will draw individuals and groups to the City of Pascagoula, Jackson County and the State of Mississippi for events and tours. This non-profit corporation’s goal is to save the USS TICONDEROGA as a naval and maritime museum, learning center and attraction for future generations.

The Coastal Mississippi area attracts travelers from all over the world.

The State of Mississippi has no modern combatant ship for tour as a museum or attraction. Placement of the ship will be in close proximity to the welcome center on Interstate Highway I-10, other coastal cities, beaches and attractions. The climate of southeastern Mississippi insures a year round visitation for tours, events and overnight stays.

The guided missile cruiser USS TICONDEROGA (CG-47), built in Pascagoula, Mississippi was the first AEGIS capable platform of eighty-nine built. USS TICONDEROGA launched over 100 SM-2 missiles in her first three years of deployment. She had a prestigious career operating off Lebanon and Libya in the 1980’s, Operation Desert Shield, enforcement of the “No fly zone” over Iraq and many other deployments supporting battleships, carrier battle groups and operations with foreign naval groups.

Ticonderoga was the first ship of the AEGIS guided-missile cruiser class, built locally at what is now Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, Ingalls Shipbuilding. Many of the people who helped build the ship still live in the Jackson County area.
